  MASK Heights’ core offering is based on a qualified balloon pilot flying passengers on the adventure of a lifetime in balloons purpose built to take fare-paying passengers. Passengers will be offered, individual and group packages for sunrise and sunset flights that last for approximately one hour and may go several kilometres.

• Tethered Rides

  Tethered balloon rides, are short low altitude rides while remaining tethered to the ground using straps or lines. They are offered at discounted rates per person. This is ideal for those with fears of flying or heights who still want to experience a Hot Air Balloon Ride.

• Private Charter Flight

  Enjoy more privacy on a Private hot air balloon charter ride; only the pilot, you and your loved ones. Ideal for 3-6 persons, families and groups who want to fly alone.

Hot air ballooning is an extremely safe activity and is deemed the safest form of air travel. You are more likely to be injured driving a car than flying in a hot air balloon! The main reason hot air ballooning is so safe is that, unlike fixed-wing aircrafts, hot air balloons only fly in good weather and slow wind.

Ballooning is regulated to exacting standards by the Civil Aviation Authority, ensuring passengers are always in the hands of expert pilots and under the care of strict safety protocols.

We are commercially insured for flight, ground transportation, and chase crew operations. Our balloons are fully insured to aviation standards by Star Assurance Company Limited, for third party and passenger liability.

What makes our hot air balloon flights so memorable is that they are much more than just the ride itself. If you so wish, you are encouraged to take part in the inflation of the balloon. Learn ballooning insights from the Pilots themselves from flight launch to landing. 

Transportation back to the launch site is included.

Hot air balloons generally fly in the early morning because that is when conditions are the most stable. Early morning typically provides the best chance for good weather – allowing for cool temperatures and the rise of the morning sun, making for a spectacular view.

Our Balloon flights are scheduled early in the morning, just after sunrise and/or late afternoon (in cooler months), a couple of hours before sunset, when the air is at its stillest.

Flights are available daily, year-round (weather dependent) and times will vary throughout the season depending on wind, sunrise and sunset times.

We have different launch and landing sites at every location.

Each day is different. What launch and landing sites we will use on any day is determined by the speed and direction of the wind that day.

During the day, the sun heats the ground which in turn heats the air above causing thermals or columns of rising air.

To enable flight, the air in the balloon needs to be significantly hotter than the air outside of the balloon. If the outside temperature is rising, that means more heat is required for the inside of the balloon. Above a certain outside temperature, it just isn’t possible to put enough heat into the balloon to lift it, without damaging the balloon.

Our experienced pilots have many technical instruments which help them keep track of wind movement, altitude and speed allowing them to have more control over the movement of the balloon. Their ability to monitor wind allows them to determine how high hot air balloons go.

For a standard flight, the balloons can fly approximately three thousand feet above ground level, and reach a maximum altitude of 100 feet above ground level for a Tethered Ride, depending on wind direction and speed.

It must be understood that the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost priority. Ballooning is dependent upon suitable weather and ground conditions, as we require reasonable vehicle and trailer access to the launch and landing sites, therefore, there may be occasions where flights will have to be cancelled.

If we cancel your reservation due to weather conditions or other unforeseen reasons, your ticket is fully refundable  or can be rescheduled. 

A standard flight takes approximately 1 hour depending on prevailing weather conditions and suitability of landing sites.

It is very important that passengers arrive at the meeting point at the correct time as stated. It will sometimes be necessary to transport passengers from the meeting point to an alternative local launch site, owing perhaps to the wind direction.

Passengers will always be returned to the original meeting point at the end of the flight. 

You should allow at least 3 hours for the complete experience.

The basket does not sway since it moves with the wind so there is no need to worry about motion sickness.

Our balloon baskets can hold a maximum of the Pilot plus 8 passengers for Tethered Rides. 

Standard flights will comprise of the Pilot plus 6 passengers in order to ensure safety and comfort.

All our hot air balloon baskets have foot-holes to help you climb in and out, but if you feel you may need a little more assistance, our crew members will happily help.

Our hot air balloon baskets are divided into compartments for your safety.

Hot air balloons can’t be steered in the traditional sense and instead travel where the wind takes them, with skilled pilots controlling the altitude by heating the air inside the balloon.

How far you’ll fly and where you will land is dependent on wind speed and direction and on how long it takes the pilot to find a suitable landing spot.

You could fly a relatively short distance or as far as 20-30 miles. Every flight is different and our landing sites vary.

Passengers will always be returned to the original meeting point at the end of the flight.

Flying in a balloon is a very serene experience while in the air but it is an adventure activity in the great outdoors and sometimes on landing, the basket can tip and/or drag along before coming to rest. 

This is how balloons have been landing for over 200 years and is perfectly normal. The balloon and basket are designed for your comfort and safety throughout the flight and landing. 

During landing you will be in the safe, seated landing position within the basket as instructed by your pilot. The landing is an exciting part of the experience and many people say it is their favourite part of the flight.

The chase crew will follow the balloon while you’re flying and meet at the landing site. After the celebration of landing, passengers will board our minibuses and head back to the initial meeting point.

Passengers must be at least 5 years old to fly. For the safety of our passengers we require that Passengers from the age of 5-16 years are accompanied by a guardian. There is a minimum height restriction of 1m 10cm, so they can see over the edge of the basket and are able to adopt the landing position. 

There is no upper age limit.

If you decide to cancel your flight, you can do so without any cancellation fee 48 hours or more prior to the flight day. 

However, cancellations made less than 48 hours to the flight day will attract a cancellation fee of 50% and cancellations less than 24 hours to the flight day or no shows will attract a 100% cancellation fee.

Hot-air balloons may not inflate or fly if wind and or weather conditions do not allow. If we cancel your reservation due to weather conditions or other unforeseen reasons, your ticket is fully refundable  or can be rescheduled.
